Britney Spears had dressed soberly, with her dark hair worn loose, to attend the Los Angeles jail at 9pm Monday, where she was photographed and fingerprinted.

LAPD said it is not their policy to release the booking photo.

But once the boring part of the evening was out of the way, she pulled on a hot pink wig to drive around the city, stopping to pose for photographers.

The Inmate Information Centre lists the booking details and even registered her weight - 125lbs.

The booking related to an August 6 incident when her car scuffed another car in a parking lot as Spears was being trailed by dozens of paparazzi.

As they clicked away, she got out of the car, surveyed the damage and walked into an adjacent building.

As a result, she was later charged with one misdemeanor count each of hit-and-run and driving without a California drivers' license.

She is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Oct. 25 in Van Nuys Superior Court.
