Following the trend of artists emulate the old Hollywood (Lindsay Lohan posed nude for Marilyn Monroe 'The Last Sitting' photoshoot), Jessica Simpson wet her body and gave her face and neck to recreate history; Here's the remarkable moment for Jessica Simpson who poses in Esquire Magazine May 2008 for the retro shoots of Virna Lisi iconic cover from March 1965. The magazine is recalling their most famous front page covers of the past, in celebration of its 75th anniversary.
We can see that Italian actress Virna Lisi, 70 was ironic, sexy and funny to provoke a feminist movement at the time, although much less the intent of Jessica Simpson here.
The NY Daily News reports : George Lois discussing the old and legendary shoot: "I spoofed the upcoming woman's movement by slapping shaving cream on the beautiful blonde Italian actress Virna Lisi [because] no American beauty had the [bleeps] to pose for it." Yeah ... Something tells me that there's no spoofing or social commentary here. About the only thing that sounds similar is the idea that no one else would do it, but I don't think Simpson reaches the word of Lisi. Oh Simpson, I have to at least give you props for continuing to try and make it.
