Excitement! American Idol is adding a fourth judge!! Who is the American Idol's season 8 new fourth judge and why was she chosen?
The Grammy-nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi has become a household name after the news that she is American Idol's new fourth judge. She will be joins the judging table alongside stalwarts Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul for the upcoming 8th season of U.S. television's most watched show when it returns in January 2009.
"For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges' table. … With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more 'girl power' on the show," Fox boss Mike Darnell said in a statement Monday.
"We are turning the heat up on Idol this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges' table," said Simon Fuller.
"She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America's most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show."

In fact DioGuardi has written and produced songs for past "Idol" winners Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. Just this month alone she is recording with "David Cook, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato,Tyler Hilton, Christina Milian, Laze & Royal, David Archuletta, Pink, Esmee Denters, Kesha, Street Drum Corps, Miranda Cosgrove. "
Further more, She wrote "We Rock", yes the Camp Rock lead song!
Kara DioGuardi’s songs have been recorded by scores of major label artists. 2007 was a big year for her as Celine Dion's single 'Taking Chances' became a hit, and the platinum selling album of the same name reached #5. 2006 brought top singles “Beep’’ and ‘’I Don’t Need A Man’’ by Pussycat Dolls, whose album went triple platinum, as well as cuts on Paris Hilton’s debut album. She previously had success with “Pieces of Me” by Ashlee Simpson which reached #5 on the Billboard chart and was followed up by “Shadow” and the current single “Lala.” She also had the lead single off Hilary Duff’s second album and upcoming singles for Gwen Stefani, Lindsay Lohan and Anastacia (in Europe).
She described herself as "pretty feisty" and willing to stand up for her opinions.
"I'm going to be a straight-shooter," she said. "I'm just somebody who's really honest and gives my opinion, and if I feel the need to be hard with someone in order to get that across, I will be. And if I feel I need to be softer and more nurturing with some of the contestants, I'll be that."
Certainly it will be nice to have another woman on the panel and we're all looking forward to seeing how this major shake-up plays out.
